Amaal Girls Project

Amaal means Hope and Aspiration. Established in 1992, the Amaal Girls Project works with young women aged between 8 and 25. Amaal delivers a range of activities and opportunities for girls in a culturally sensitive environment with the aim of encouraging more young women into mainstream provision such as education, training, employment and community work. Many young girls from Minority Ethnic backgrounds are deprived of opportunities available to them due to barriers and lack of information and encouragement. Our youth workers use a range of extra-curricular and recreational activities to empower young women and inspire them to realise their aspirations.

Substance misuse, Sexual exploitation, Domestic Violence, Gang crime, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Teenage Pregnancy rings a bell in every ear in Tower Hamlets and raises eyebrows in many more across London. Amaal Girls Group seeks to work with young women in Tower hamlets to implement a preventative scheme to issues that affect the progression and well being of young women. It stands to oppose discrimination, challenge individual potential and create opportunities for young women within a culturally sensitive framework.

Our girl’s only youth club operates as a home or a hub where girls come to learn through fun, build on their skills, meet new people, and gain new experiences in a safe and friendly environment. Our girl’s only room wraps warmly around every girl that enters and opens for them a window of inspiration.
