Osmani Trust expresses concern over EDL demonstration

Osmani Trust is concerned about the possible demonstration to be held by the English Defence League on 03 September 2011 in Tower Hamlets. We believe this will create fear and tensions within the community and has the potential to incite violence and disorder.

Tower Hamlets is one of the most diverse boroughs in the country with people from various backgrounds working and living in harmony. Osmani Trust believes in communities working together to create a peaceful, cohesive and prosperous society.

We wish to convey the following messages to our community:

  • Carry on as normal and do not allow this event to disrupt our daily lives
  • Avoid confrontation with police or demonstrators
  • Allow police and authorities to do their job
  • Do not act on or spread rumours
  • Stay safe and stay away from any potential trouble spots

Our staff and volunteers will be available throughout the day to offer advice and support for concerned members of the community.

Osmani Trust will also be holding our annual community fun day at the ‘Gutt’ (Chicksand Estate) on the same day. The fun day will host a football tournament, barbecue, face painting and more. We encourage people to come along, enjoy the day and celebrate our diversity.
