Girls Basketball Tournament 09

The Healthy Futures ‘Girls Basketball Tournament 2009’ took place in the Osmani Sports Hall on Sunday 6th December ‘09. Healthy Futures (a project of Osmani Trust) organised the tournament in Partnership with the Muslim Women’s Sports Foundation. In total, 10 teams entered the tournament that resulted in the engagement of just over a 100 girls on the day. A variety of different teams participated battling it out for the gleaming winner’s trophy. Participant teams in the tournament included the Healthy Futures team as the hosts, Muslim Women’s Sports Foundation (MWSF Ravens), Enfield Phoenex, and Hayaa Fitness.

After several hours of play both Enfield Phoenix and Healthy Futures reached the finals to play against one another, this eventually resulted in the Enfield Phoenix winning the final without having lost a single match in the tournament. Alema Khadim, Healthy Futures Health & Sports Officer stated, “Coming second in the tournament is a huge achievement considering some of these girls have only taken part in such competitive tournaments for the first time!” Both winners and runners- up received trophies and medals at the end of the tournament to demonstrate their achievement whilst the MWSF Ravens took third place.

Feedback received from all was positive with Kas Stuart, Enfield Phoenix Manager commenting “I loved the atmosphere here; we definitely have to do this again.”

Furthermore, the Coordinator of Muslim Woman’s Sports Foundation said, “This was a fantastic opportunity for the girls to put into practice everything they have been learning at training sessions.”

Healthy Futures basketball training takes place every Thursdays at the Osmani Sports Hall from 6.30pm to 8.00pm. The sessions are delivered by qualified level 2 coaches. For further information please contact Muhammad Didar at the Osmani Trust on 020 7247 8080 or muhammad.didar@osmanitrust.org
