Running to support Mental Health Campaign

Running the Marathon for People facing Mental Health Issues

Osmani Trust’s health trainer, Azir Hussain, is running the Virgin London Marathon to raise money for adults facing Mental Health issues in Tower Hamlets.

He is currently very busy fundraising and training and putting in the miles to be ready for the Marathon in April this year.

One of the activities at Osmani Trust is our weekly mental health user group. On average 20 adults with mental health issues attend i.e. with schizophrenia, hearing voices, depression, sleep problems, stress, anxiety, loneliness, low self-esteem and confidence.

Azir feels passionate for his cause to provide community support groups for people with mental illness and said “I am excited and looking forward to running my first London Marathon. I am running to raise money for people living with mental health problems. I am running because the session is the only time some of these people come out of their homes and feel safe to socialise with others and be part of the wider society. They look forward to the session all week and it’s great to see their development over time”.

“I hope people will support me and enable us to raise money to continue to provide this vital service for the community and support people with mental health issues”.

Azir is hoping to raise £10,000 for this worthwhile cause. He will be launching his fundraising campaign which includes cakes sales, car boot sales, trek to Snowdon and many more challenges to be confirmned … at the Osmani Centre.  All colleagues from press and digital media are invited to join us on our Launch day on the 2nd of March 2017.
